Itinerary for the day
Theory and practice sessions offer insider advice on how to write different kinds of children’s book: picture books, chapter books and young adult novels. These are interspersed with writer’s toolkit sessions designed to hone your craft. The day finishes with ten tips to maximize your chances of getting published, followed by a question and answer session.

All about the author
Stephen has taught creative writing workshops in hundreds of schools across the UK and overseas. He has published picture books (illustrated by Christopher Corr), early readers, chapter books, young adult novels and TV tie-ins. His publishers include Scholastic, Andersen Press, Harper Collins, Pearson Educational and Rising Stars. See Stephen’s website for more details.
Two of Stephen’s published novels were written during National Novel Writing Month 2007 and 2013, before he became a full-time author. He loves NaNoWriMo and understands what it takes to combine a passion for writing with the demands of a day job.

Directions and parking:
If you’re coming from Clapham Junction station, take the Grant Road exit, turn left and then take the first right down Winstanley Road. Keep going past the corner shop, towards the park, and St Peter’s is on the left in the white building. There is free parking on the road if you can find a place.
If you’re walking, the building is right by the south western entrance of York Gardens park.
Lunch will not be provided. Please bring a packed lunch or find a nearby venue to purchase lunch from.

There will need to be a minimum of 12 participants to run the course. The workshop can hold a maximum of 30 to ensure the quality of the workshop is retained and everyone has a chance to share their work.
You will be informed if the course has sufficient numbers and is running by Wednesday 12th September and then asked for payment to guarantee your place.
Cost for the workshop is £85, you can pay an additional £25 at the time of booking or after the course to receive feedback on a sample of your work from Stephen that you can submit via the online forum.
Payment can be made via Paypal, cheque (made payable to Authors Abroad) or BACS transfer.
Please note that you will not be able to attend the course if you have not pre-paid.
Cancelling your place.
If you wish to cancel your place on the course please inform Yvonne as soon as possible. If you cancel before 12th September there will be no charge.
If you cancel after this date there will not be a charge if the class has sufficient numbers to run. However, if your cancellation is after 12th September and your cancellation brings the class to less than 12 attendees you will be billed £35 to enable the class to still run.
