Broughton Hall Children’s Literature Festival 29th – 30th September 2018

Authors Abroad is delighted to be organising our first children’s literature festival, which will take place at Broughton Hall Estate on 29th and 30th September and will feature authors such as Clare Balding, Brian Moses, Tony Walsh, Alex Scarrow, Tanya Landman, Chris Bradford and Ross Welford to name just a few of the 60 best selling authors and poets attending. There will also be a prize giving ceremony for the students who are finalists in the Yorkshire Young Writer of the Year short story competition, theatre performances and an opening concert on Friday night by Andy and the Odd Socks from CBeebies.

Andy and the Odd Socks will be kicking off the celebrations with a concert on Friday evening at Broughton Hall.

Providing free author visits to local schools

On Thursday and Friday preceding the festival we will be supplying 200 free author visits to local Yorkshire and Lancashire schools, which will enable 40,000 students to benefit from seeing an author in their school. This has been made possible thanks to funding and sponsorship from local businesses who wish to invest in literacy and mental health improvement within their local community.

The festival will generate a lot of publicity for Yorkshire, as well as promoting enthusiasm for reading and educating about how to care for their mental health.

Raising awareness and funds for young people’s mental health charity – The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust

Authors Abroad will be using the Broughton Hall Children’s Festival to raise funds for the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust, a pioneering mental health charity that helps to train teachers to recognise, and then address, mental health issues in young children such as cyber bullying and peer pressure.

Our festival was featured in Yorkshire Life Magazine, you can read the article here:
