Adam Bushnell

Adam Bushnell is a published author, educational consultant, storyteller, voice over artist and teacher. He works in the UK and internationally in both state and private education. He is the author of ten books of fiction including ‘Snakes Legs and Cows Eggs’ (Selected by the School Library Association for the Boys into Books list for 2008). He has also recorded audio versions of these books.

His most recent novel, ‘Quests in Epica’ was released in the summer of 2016 and was illustrated by multi award winning illustrator Ross Collins.

He is also the editor and author of ‘Beyond Early Writing’ an academic book for teachers on how to help children to write creatively which was published in June 2015. His next academic book, ‘Inviting Writing in Primary Schools’, is due for publication in 2017.

He is a full member of the Society of Authors, Society for Storytelling, Children’s Discovery Centre, National Association of Workshop Providers, Speaking of Books, Authors Abroad and Equity.

He is featured as a recommended author on the ‘Reading is Fundamental’ and the ‘National Centre for Language and Literacy’ databases. He regularly appears as guest author at the Northern Children’s Book Festival as well as other Literature Festivals across the U.K. His books are on the ‘Boys Into Books’ recommended reading list. He is the Cultural Ambassador for Gateshead Council and takes part in voluntary work for several children’s charities including Abraham’s Children in Crisis, helping the social, emotional and educational needs of children in the Holy Land.

Adam’s School Visits

He can deliver workshops on any curriculum topic, but here are some basic examples of the services offered:

 Creative writing across multiple genres including: Narrative, Poetry, Non Fiction, Character, Setting, Visual Literacy, Persuasion, Explanation, Non Chronological Reports, Recounts and more.

 Inspiring love of books and reading.

 Using stories/props/artefacts/images etc to inspire creative writing.

 Developing skills in individual or group oral storytelling.

 Story planning and storyboard workshops leading to writing.

 Confidence building techniques in listening, speaking and writing.

Example of a typical visit

An example timetable in a primary school could be:

09:00 – 09:30  Morning Nursery. Topic – Animals.

09:30 – 10:15  Reception. Topic – Traditional Tales.

10:30 – 11:30  Years 1 and 2. Topic – Knights and Castles.

12:30 – 13:00  Afternoon Nursery. Topic – Robots.

13:00 – 14:00  Years 3 and 4. Topic – Myths and Legends from around the world.

14:15 – 15:15  Years 5 and 6. Topic – Ancient Egyptians.
