Andy Winters is a writer and performer. He is better known as Cornelius Gold, one half of a circus/magic act called ‘The Incredible Blood Brothers.’ Andy has travelled the world performing live in front of over half a million people and also has dozens of TV credits.
Despite all of this, Andy ran away from the Circus to become a teacher. After studying at Oxford, UCLAN and Bolton he became a University lecturer and then taught for years with the Pupil Referral Service before becoming Education Representative at Lancashire Youth Offending Team.
During his time as Education Representative with YOT, he has co-written the hugely successful ‘It’s Your Life’ Knife awareness Programme: www.knifeaware.org.uk. The programme is being used by schools, YOT’s and a variety of other agencies around the country. Andy was a speaker at last year’s Youth Justice Board Conference where the Programme was described as “groundbreaking.” He also edited the stART book of poetry which went on a successful tour of North West Museums. He is currently writing a Restorative Justice Programme and has also been commissioned to write a poetry-making game for the National Football Museum.
Andy’s latest children’s book is called ‘Terrifyingly Talented.’ It takes an offbeat look at the amazing performers who were around in the Victorian era. Full of illustrations by Al Jacques, the book is set to become a children’s favourite.

Andy uses all his experience as a writer/performer/teacher to ensure that his audience get the full benefit of a true learning experience. He can work with any age group and any ability. No group is too challenging.
For school visits, Andy brings in his huge leather bound book of secrets which are reputed to have belonged to the Great Lafayette himself. Inside are props to inspire storytelling and creative writing. Children can also learn a few amazing confidence building tricks. Andy gives readings from ‘Terrifyingly Talented’ and recounts tales of some of the most unusual acts he has ever worked with. Creativity is the main ethos behind his performances and he will ensure that all his audience will go away with new skills, be it a trick, a written work or a story to tell.
Poetry workshops
Andy uses his unique poetry maker resource for a fun filled interactive poetry extravaganza. Children use games to create their own poems. They learn about rhythm, pace and how everyone is a writer that can utilise all their senses to create a brilliant piece of work.
Crime workshops
Crime workshops are fun and interactive. The groups will create their own ‘criminal’ which can then be been used for school classroom displays. They will learn all about stereotyping, how crime started and how it is detected. They are told how children down the ages were treated by the judicial system. This is a brilliant, interactive session that will soon be backed up by Andy’s next book ‘Terrifyingly Criminal’.
INSET Days
Andy does INSET days for schools and specialises in methods to keep pupils stimulated and engaged.
Restorative Justice is Andy’s passion and his ‘Writing Wrongs’ resource for restorative justice is due to be released soon. Andy is presenting a crime workshop at this year’s Short Stay Schools Conference in York and he is presenting a workshop at the Restorative Justice Conference in Hull.
He has enhanced CRB disclosure and full public liability insurance.
